Weaving is one of the oldest productions methods. The introduction of the mechanical weaving loom made history within manufacturing technology. This invention, as one of the first machines, marked the beginning of the `Industrial Revolution´. Today we find ourselves again at the starting point of fundamental changes. Networking and digital culture have an impact on all aspects of our lives – also on the manufacturing of products. Fabbrica draws a tangible picture of this change. Digitally woven objects, produced with 3D printing technology – also called fabbing – playfully serve as a link to the context within production history.

The Fabbrica lamps are 3D printed lampshades in woven structure. A cloth-like object, shaped with the use of physics simulation, wraps the LED light. Each lamp is created in the same way, yet resulting in different shapes with a pattern drawn from a digital punchcard.

The pattern is generated in a process where traditional plain weaving patterns are altered with 'Game of Life' rules into more organic and complex structures that also have the function to hold the weave of the lamp together.

The concept was also applied to a collection of 3d printed bracelets.
